JL59 Rotate Screen Fixes for Phone Browser Games
A phone will not rotate screen when auto-rotate (Android) or Portrait Orientation Lock (iPhone) blocks it, or when the page itself does not support landscape.
- JL59 Battery Saver and Low Power Mode on Your Phone
- Battery saver on Android and Low Power Mode on iPhone limit background activity, dim the screen or shorten the screen timeout.
- JL59 Clear Browser Cache Steps for Chrome and Safari
- To clear browser cache on a phone, open the browser's clear-data screen, pick cached images and files, choose a time range and confirm.
- JL59 Slow Internet Checks for Phone Browser Play
- Slow internet delays the moment a spin result or live table picture reaches your phone.
If the picture will not turn when you tilt your phone, the cause is nearly always one of three: a rotation setting, a lock in the control panel, or a page that stays in one orientation. This page helps you rotate screen on Android and iPhone and tells you how to tell the causes apart. It is one of the checks in the mobile games setup pages for phones, and it uses Google’s Android help and Apple’s iPhone guide for every menu name.
Rotate screen is blocked by auto-rotate on Android
On Android, the first cause is that auto rotate is off. Google’s Android help gives two ways to turn it on.
- Swipe down from the top to open Quick Settings, swipe to the Auto-rotate tile and tap it.
- Or open your device’s Settings app, tap Display & touch, then Auto-rotate screen.
Google adds that you can swipe down with two fingers to open the full Quick Settings.
The Auto-rotate tile is on but the browser still stays upright.
Turn the tile off and on once, then turn the phone sideways slowly. If it still stays upright, open another page and try the same turn to separate the page from the phone.
Portrait Orientation Lock is on for iPhone
On iPhone, the lock is the likeliest cause. Apple’s iPhone guide says to swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center, tap the Portrait Orientation Lock button to make sure it is off, close Control Center and turn the iPhone sideways. Apple’s guide says the button is red when the orientation is locked and grey when it is not.
You cannot find the Portrait Orientation Lock button.
Apple’s help says to add it to Control Center through the customise controls screen, then repeat the steps above.
Landscape mode needs a page that supports it
Landscape mode works only where the page allows it. Apple’s iPhone guide says some apps do not support rotation, so the screen might not rotate even when the lock is off, and it suggests trying a page that does, such as Safari. Use that test: if another website turns and the game screen does not, the game screen is holding one orientation.
| Test | Result | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Another site turns | Game stays fixed | The game screen holds its orientation |
| Nothing turns | Phone setting | Go back to the first two sections |
Only the game screen stays upright while other sites turn.
Stay in the orientation the game gives you and play there. The JILI games reference pages show each title’s own screen details.
Portrait mode is the better choice for some sessions
Portrait mode is the natural fit for the single-column lobby, and it keeps one hand free. If rotation keeps flipping while you lie down or travel, turning rotation off keeps the view steady. A named example is a commuter who keeps Auto-rotate off on the bus and switches it on at a desk.
- Turn rotation off before you lie down or move about.
- Turn it back on when you want a wider view.
- Keep the phone steady while a round is in progress.
Battery and connection can mislead you
| Look-alike | Real cause |
|---|---|
| Turn looks slow | Battery saver delaying effects |
| Turn stalls halfway | Slow connection |
A phone in battery saver mode may delay visual effects, so a turn can look slow rather than broken. Check the battery saver settings that slow a screen before changing anything else. A page that stalls halfway through a turn can also be a slow internet problem on mobile data.
Still not working?
Restart the browser by closing it from the recent-apps list and opening it again, then restart the phone. After that, check your phone maker’s own help page for the rotation setting, as Google notes that steps may vary by device. If only one page fails, the page itself is the cause.
- Test another website in landscape.
- Test another browser on the same phone.
- Restart the phone and test again.
FAQ
Why does my iPhone stay in portrait mode?
Portrait Orientation Lock is probably on. Apple's iPhone guide says to open Control Center, tap the Portrait Orientation Lock button to turn it off, then turn the phone sideways.
Where is auto rotate on Android?
Google's Android help gives two routes: swipe down for Quick Settings and tap the Auto-rotate tile, or open Settings, tap Display & touch, then Auto-rotate screen.
Does every game support landscape mode?
No. Apple's help says some apps do not support rotation, and a web page or game screen can also stay in one orientation. Test with a page that does rotate.
Is rotating the phone useful for slots?
It is a matter of taste. Portrait suits one-handed play in the single-column lobby, and landscape gives a wider game view where the game screen supports it.
