JL59 NBA Betting: Reading Minus, Plus and Decimal Prices Correctly

Ticket: “I bet -150 thinking it paid ₱150 and got back far less.” The JL59 NBA betting questions this desk receives are mostly about reading prices, not picking teams. NBA coverage tends to print American odds, with a plus or minus sign, and one misread sign flips the whole meaning. A routing note comes first: the JL59 lobby’s game types end at Slot, Fishing and Live, with no court for NBA games, so these markets are placed at a sportsbook that PAGCOR has cleared for sports betting.
JL59 NBA betting: reading the three price formats
Each example below is arithmetic on an illustrative price, not a quote from any book.
| Format | Example | What it means | Return on a ₱100 stake that wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| American, minus | -150 | Stake 150 to win 100 profit | ₱166.67 total (₱66.67 profit) |
| American, plus | +150 | A 100 stake wins 150 profit | ₱250 total (₱150 profit) |
| Decimal | 2.50 | Total return per 1 staked | ₱250 total |
| Decimal | 1.91 | Close to the -110 line | ₱191 total |
Converting takes one line of arithmetic per sign. Plus side: take the number over 100, then add one, so +150 turns into 2.50. Minus side: put 100 over the number, then add one, so -150 turns into roughly 1.67.
Reading the price as a chance
Divide 1 by a decimal price to see the chance the book is implying: 2.50 implies 40%. Add both sides of a game together and the total usually comes to more than 100%; the part above 100% is the book’s margin, which is how even a careful reader ends up behind over time.
NBA betting Philippines: tickets from the morning games
Problem: you missed the start and the market had already closed. Cause: NBA games are played on North American evenings, which usually falls in the Philippine morning. Fix: check the start time the book shows in your own time zone, not the time printed in American coverage.
Problem: a player prop on points was voided. Cause: the player did not take part, and the book’s prop rules covered that case. Fix: read the prop rules before betting, and expect different books to treat a late scratch differently.
Problem: a five-game parlay lost on the last leg. Cause: every leg must win; one loss settles the whole ticket as lost. Fix: count each extra leg as another way to lose, not another way to win.
- Keep parlays to two or three legs if you use them at all.
- Never add a leg to “boost” a ticket that is already placed.
- Write down the total stake for the night before the first game.
Problem: a younger cousin asks you to place an NBA bet on their behalf. Cause: sports bets can feel like casual fan talk rather than gambling. Fix: say no. PAGCOR’s age floor for online gaming platforms is 21, and placing the stake from your account is still their bet, only wearing your name.
Problem: a chat group sells “sure NBA locks”. Cause: tip sellers profit from fees whether the tips win or not. Fix: no sure win exists in sports betting. Leave the group and keep your stake.
For spreads and totals on basketball generally, see basketball betting lines explained. Different sports read differently: boxing fight markets and Mobile Legends esports betting each have their own tickets. The JL59 sports rules page shows how to confirm a sportsbook’s PAGCOR licence before any of it.
How to Get Started
-
Switch the price format
If the book lets you, switch to decimal prices; one number then shows your full return per peso, with no sign to misread.
-
Convert before you confirm
Turn any plus or minus price into a decimal with the two rules in the table, and check the return on your stake before tapping confirm.
-
Open the prop rules
Before a player prop, read what the book does if that player sits out or leaves the game early.
